| A genuine blast from the past. D1056 Western Sultan on the
Western China Clay railtour 4th December 1976.
A very full set of whizzo bashers on show here.

| Another very old picture. Taken at York on 26/2/77, when by
rights we should have been on the Western Tribute railtour - but as
it was sold out, plan B came into action. Standing in front of
40025 are: front row - no idea!, Jack, Spencer, middle row - Moggy,
Phil, Squeak, Richard (Deltic Dick), Magnet, Me (with woolly hat
on), (Mr) Bolton, back row - Jed (yes he was around even then!),
Mint, Charlie, Dickens, TTT, Pizer, and Stan (being
offensive). |

| A classic rediscovered from the archive (amazing flares value
here!) Taken at the almost brand new Birmingham International
on 29th October 1978 - awaiting the arrival of the "North West
Rambler" railtour, behind 84001 (40185 and 40170 to be had
later including Stockport Tiviot Dale - now a motorway!)
Front row - Phil, Steve, Moggy, Mark, Me (on floor), Bloxwich,
Back Row - Magnet, Woam, Pete, ?, Charlie, Jed, Graham, Stan, ?,
Pete, ?, ?. - Dig the |

| A seminar shot taken at Hartlepool, on 29th
October 1977, featuring 37111 which at the time has an
absolute heap being a Tinsley boilered loco - and we all
thought we would get a Thornaby or Gateshead engine! This
is a particularly fine collection of bashers from
Birmingham - I am number 4.

| A seminar shot taken at Reading on the East Anglian railtour,
27th January 1979. The locomotive is 40052 which has 46023
inside providing train heat - both locomotive were removed at
Stratford in favour of 31019, and then 46023 came back on its
own. This railtour turned into a farce of monumental proportions
and was consequently rerun on 29th September with 40006 which worked
the full trip as booked. I have my foot on the buffer. |

| Now do this lot look dubious or what? Glasgow
- date not known.
You know who you are!

| An everyday occurrence at Holyhead. A small seminar shot in
front of 40004, prior to departing on 1A78, the 18.05 to Euston,
not-stop to Chester. We had arrived on 40127 which is just out
of camera shot awaiting departure on the 18.17 to Crewe. |
 |
| A seminar shot taken at Whitby, June 1983. The locomotive is
40131, which worked the ADEX from Wellington throughout and was
preparing to return. |
 |
| An unusual seminar shot taken in front of a kettle. The excuse
being we were "filling-in" on the Worth Valley Railway,
awaiting 40056 to return us from Keighley to Stafford in the evening
on an ADEX. 1984. |
 |
| Oban, August 1981, locomotive 55021 Argyll
and Sutherland Highlander, this was only the second time a Deltic had
ever worked to Oban - and I have now been
informed that the people in the picture are as follows:- Barney Rubble,
Steve Philpott, Paul Gash, Pete Toulson, Unknown, Dave Bugg, Brian
Gray, and on the ballast, Muir of Ord and Yiblis (Mr Selby). |
 |
| Now let this be a lesson to you all! John was so wound up with
40155 over Shap that his arm got stuck. We had to manhandle him
into the pub sideways. Carlisle 1983. |

|
| A case of counting chickens! This was a very "big"
engine indeed, and had arrived at Llandudno on 1M48 (07.52
ex-Leeds) and had backed onto 1E82 (13.42 to York) as booked, when
this photo was taken. Two minutes later it was unhooked and
never worked again - bowled! 28th June 1980. |
 |
| Another 1970's classic. Taken at Penyffordd on 1L00,
Northwest Rambler railtour with 40108 on 13th January 1979.
Steve, Phil, Squeak, (Mr) Bolton, Ray, Baz, Stefano. Nice
flares guys. |

| Things to do at Shotton on a Sunday - go and stand in a
field! Having got off 40024, we awaited the arrival of 40197,
12th July 1981. Amongst others this picture includes Jacqui,
Brendan, Martin, Jane, Ken, Tim, Bernie, Steve (keeping well away
from Jacqui -in joke), Stefano and Phil. It would also appear
to be Guy Fawkes night. |

Now what about this then!! The 12.05 Derby-St Pancras was a
running-in turn for the works, and I covered it and the other possibilities
many times and had some 40's and 25's - but when a 44 was in the
works excitement reached fever pitch (they NEVER worked passenger
trains) - but they always went back to Toton light engine.
Except this time - 10th July 1980 - 44008 pilots 45121 on the 12.05
to St Pancras at Derby. The men of steel in the picture are:
The "gallery" is L to R:- Tony Shaw, Mark Hadley(Mint),
Malc Bowker, don't know the partly hidden figure, "Clackers",
Geoff Coleman, Mike Kerry, Neville Sloper, Stuart Billings and
Trev Dorrington.
